Testing of a full-scale composite floor plate Article

Dennis Lam, Xianghe Dai, Therese Sheehan

Engineering 2019, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 223-233 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.11.021

Abstract:

A full-scale composite floor plate was tested to investigate the flexural behavior and in-plane effects of the floor slab in a grillage of composite beams that reduces the tendency for longitudinal splitting of the concrete slab along the line of the primary beams. This is important in cases where the steel decking is discontinuous when it is orientated parallel to the beams. In this case, it is important to demonstrate that the amount of transverse reinforcement required to transfer local forces from the shear connectors can be reduced relative to the requirements of Eurocode 4. The mechanism under study involved in-plane compression forces being developed in the slab due to the restraining action of the floor plate, which was held in position by the peripheral composite beams; while the secondary beams acted as transverse ties to resist the forces in the floor plate that would otherwise lead to splitting of the slab along the line of the primary beams. The tendency for cracking along the center line of the primary beam and at the peripheral beams was closely monitored. This is the first large floor plate test that has been carried out under laboratory conditions since the Cardington tests in the early 1990s, although those tests were not carried out to failure. This floor plate test was designed so that the longitudinal force transferred by the primary beams was relatively high (i.e., it was designed for full shear connection), but the transverse reinforcement was taken as the minimum of 0.2% of the concrete area. The test confirmed that the primary beams reached their plastic bending resistance despite the discontinuous decking and transverse reinforcement at the minimum percentage given in Eurocode 4. Based on this test, a reduction factor due to shear connectors at edge beams without U-bars is proposed.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 3,   Pages 405-414 doi: 10.1007/s11705-019-1886-0

Abstract: A series of novel dense mixed conducting ceramic membranes based on K NiF -type (La Ca ) (Ni Cu )O was successfully prepared through a sol-gel route. Their chemical compatibility, oxygen permeability, CO and CO tolerance, and long-term CO resistance regarding phase composition and crystal structure at different atmospheres were studied. The results show that higher Ca contents in the material lead to the formation of CaCO . A constant oxygen permeation flux of about 0.63 mL·min ·cm at 1173 K through a 0.65 mm thick membrane was measured for (La Ca ) (Ni Cu )O , using either helium or pure CO as sweep gas. Steady oxygen fluxes with no sign of deterioration of this membrane were observed with increasing CO concentration. The membrane showed excellent chemical stability towards CO for more than 1360 h and phase stability in presence of CO for 4 h at high temperature. In addition, this membrane did not deteriorate in a high-energy CO plasma. The present work demonstrates that this (La Ca ) (Ni Cu )O membrane is a promising chemically robust candidate for oxygen separation applications.

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2011, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 442-448 doi: 10.1007/s11465-011-0242-y

Abstract:

Precision servo transmission systems have widely been applied in industrial equipment to achieve high accuracy and high speed motion. However, due to the presence of friction and uncertainty, the characteristics of precision servo transmission systems are variant depends on the working conditions, leading to oscillation and instability in the system performances. In this paper, a grey-box model of the system is established, the model structure derived from the theoretical modeling and the model parameters are obtained by experiments using set membership identification method. This paper proposes two-degrees of freedom (2-DOF) robust position controller for a precision servo transmission system, based on the quantitative feedback theory (QFT), to achieve high accuracy and consistent tracking performance even in presence of considerable system uncertainties and friction disturbances. The results of simulate and experiment validate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
